This innovation promises more accurate color capture, higher sensitivity, and the possibility of smaller sensors. Each nanosheet can detect different colors, allowing a single pixel to capture red, green, and blue colors simultaneously, which contrasts with conventional sensors that require multiple pixels to represent different hues.
The benefits of this new technology could lead to smaller camera modules, creating space for larger batteries or more advanced stabilization systems. Specifically, the sensitivity of the new technology reaches 800 amperes per watt, compared to only 10 amperes per watt for conventional sensors, significantly enhancing image quality.
While this advancement could improve the performance of smaller camera sensors commonly used for selfie and ultrawide shots, it remains unclear if this technology can scale to support larger sensors, such as those with 50MP or 200MP resolutions. If scaling proves difficult, larger conventional sensors equipped with modern features might still outperform in capturing high-quality images.
