POCO F8 Ultra Smartphone: A Strong Contender in Flagship Market

The POCO F8 Ultra smartphone is the latest release from the company, positioning itself as a powerful contender in the flagship segment. It showcases significant upgrades in hardware, an overhauled design, and enhanced audio capabilities, moving beyond its reputation as a budget phone.

Having previously noted the F7 Ultra as POCO’s first flagship model, I now assert that the F8 Ultra truly represents the brand’s first foray into the flagship realm. The exterior has undergone a notable redesign, particularly the rear which features a new rectangular camera bump reminiscent of high-end devices like the iPhone 17 Pro.

A prominent feature is its collaboration with Bose, introducing a triple speaker acoustic system that includes an additional rear speaker to deliver enhanced audio depth, referred to as a 2.1 channel system. This configuration significantly enriches the sound profile, making for an impressive audio experience, particularly for music and video content.

The redesigned camera bump houses a 50MP Light Fusion 950 lens with optical image stabilization, mirroring features found in the flagship Xiaomi 17 Pro. Alongside it, a 5x Periscope Telephoto lens offers impressive capabilities, consistently delivering clear images with minimal distortion across various zoom levels. The optical image stabilization has also seen improvements, making it easier to capture stable photos at extended zoom ranges.

For video, the F8 Ultra enhances SteadyShot capabilities, allowing for filming at a resolution of 2.8K at 30 frames per second, a step up from the previous model's 1080p. For users requiring maximum resolution, the device also supports 8K at 30FPS.

A new HyperRGB AMOLED display aims to position the F8 Ultra as a gaming smartphone, featuring advanced pixel arrangement technology and a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. Coupled with the Vision Boost D8 chipset, the display enhances visuals during both video playback and gaming sessions.

Under the hood, the F8 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, clocking at a maximum of 4.6GHz, paired with the VisionBoost D8 GPU. With 16GB of dedicated RAM and an additional 6GB of system RAM, performance benchmarks reveal impressive Geekbench scores: 3376 for single-core and 10,000 for multicore tests, surpassing both the Pixel 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Graphics performance is also noteworthy, achieving similar scores to top flagship phones. During gaming tests with graphics-intensive titles, the F8 Ultra delivered consistent performance at 60FPS or higher without frame drops, thanks in part to its LiquidCool Technology, which effectively manages heat during extended play.

Productivity on the F8 Ultra is equally seamless, easily handling multitasking and complex applications. The updated HyperOS 3 enhances the user experience with new quality of life features and improved connectivity options, including simultaneous audio output to multiple devices.

The smartphone is equipped with a substantial 6500mAh battery, supporting all-day use and featuring 50W Hypercharge wireless charging and 100W wired Hypercharging, allowing for a quick recharge in approximately 35 minutes. However, it is noteworthy that the F8 Ultra does not include a charger in the package, unlike its predecessor, the F7 Ultra, which offered a 120W fast charger.

At a price point of $799 for the model tested, the POCO F8 Ultra solidifies its status as a flagship device, competing well with other top smartphones while retaining POCO's consumer-friendly approach.
