Initially released on September 14, iOS 27 was not heavily promoted for the first few weeks. Users could see iOS 26.7, and later iOS 26.7.1, as the main update, while iOS 27 appeared in a lower section. Now, accessing General > Software Update will show iOS 27.0.1 at the top, making it more visible.
While Apple has not provided official adoption numbers for iOS 27, promoting it prominently aims to increase its global usage rate. Users are not required to update immediately; those who prefer sticking with iOS 26 can continue doing so, especially if they want to avoid potential early bugs associated with new releases.
However, Apple advises users who opt not to update to at least install iOS 26.7.1, which includes important security fixes to protect against potential vulnerabilities.
To update your iPhone, connect to a stable Wi-Fi network, ensure a battery charge of at least 50% or connect to a charger, open the Settings app, select General, then Software Update, and tap on iOS 27.0.1 to install.
