Review of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G Smartphone

Included in the box are the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, a generic phone case, and a 100W charging block with a detachable USB-C cable. Unlike many competitors in North America who exclude accessories, Xiaomi continues to provide these add-ons with its latest models.

The phone features a 6.83-inch Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 display with a resolution of 2772×1280, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 3500 nits. Its AMOLED screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, while dual speakers deliver Dolby Atmos audio with a volume boost of up to 400%. This makes for vibrant visuals and impressive sound quality suitable for extended use.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 Mobile Platform Chipset with an octa-core processor and Adreno 812 GPU. The tested model includes 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, extendable to 12GB with additional memory. It operates on Xiaomi's HyperOS 3, featuring an array of AI capabilities including writing assistance and speech recognition.

The camera lineup consists of a 50MP f/1.5 main lens, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP f/2.2 front lens. It captures video at up to 4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps. While it produces detailed images, the portrait mode occasionally struggles with edge detection, particularly with accessories like headsets.

Video quality is competent but does not compare to higher-end flagship models. It is adequate for casual users and content creation, though professional creators may find it lacking over time.

Battery life is one of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G's standout features, boasting a 10,000mAh capacity that can last several days under normal usage. Heavy activities may drain the battery faster, but the 100W charger can fully recharge it in about an hour.

Gaming performance was satisfactory during tests, with the device effectively handling graphics-intensive games like Wuthering Waves. While it occasionally heated up, the performance remained relatively stable, making it suitable for casual gaming sessions.

In benchmark testing, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G scored 872 in Geekbench 7’s Single-Core category and 2959 in Multi-Core, placing it among devices like the Nothing Phone and POCO F3. AnTuTu's score of 964502 positions it competitively within its segment.

Although these scores may seem underwhelming given the new chipset, real-world usage proved the device responsive and efficient for general tasks. Priced at $499 USD, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is attractive compared to other smartphones, particularly due to its durability, optimization, and extensive features that should appeal to most users.
