The August 2026 Android update has been released, but Google’s accompanying announcement lacked detailed information about security vulnerabilities. The August 3 bulletin does not list any Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) or indicate how many issues may have been resolved. This trend has also been seen in Chrome browser updates, where CVE details are provided days after the initial announcement. In light of this, Samsung has stepped in to offer clarity for Galaxy smartphone users.

Samsung's latest Security Maintenance Release bulletin reveals that 38 CVEs, as identified by Google, have been addressed. Among these, eight are rated as critical, while the remaining 30 have a high severity rating. The bulletin also notes 18 fixed Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures.
Key critical Android CVEs included in the August security update are:
- CVE-2026-25289: A memory corruption vulnerability in Android's Neighbor Awareness Networking Service.
- CVE-2026-28662: An issue related to improper input validation, though further specifics are not available.
- CVE-2026-45515: This flaw could allow an attacker with local access to render the device inoperable or launch unauthorized activities.
- CVE-2026-49882: Another input validation issue affecting the dialer application on Android 14, 15, and 16 devices.
Details regarding several other CVEs, including CVE-2026-28591, CVE-2026-28653, CVE-2026-49879, and CVE-2026-49884, are still pending. Updates will be provided once more information becomes available from Google and surrounding vulnerability databases.
At this point, it remains unclear whether the vulnerabilities fixed this month were discovered by Google's own security teams or external researchers participating in the Android Bug Bounty Program. Samsung has noted that some vulnerabilities were identified by these experts. In a similar vein, Microsoft recently announced it allocated $20 million to ethical hackers for vulnerability disclosures over the past year.
Both Samsung and Google push out security updates automatically, and notifications will be sent to users when updates are applicable to their devices. However, the fragmented nature of the Android ecosystem means that unlike Apple's iOS, not all users receive updates simultaneously. Users are advised to remain patient and check Google’s support page for guidance on how to verify and update their Android versions.
