Key highlights of iOS 27 include a revamped Siri, which has been developed into a more powerful assistant capable of tasks such as writing, photo editing, and creating custom shortcuts.
In addition, iOS 27 offers various improvements such as upgraded Maps and Wallet functionalities, faster Camera launches, and improved AirDrop speeds. Notable features include customizable alarm volumes independent of device sound levels, which addresses issues with silent alarms. The operating system also enables users to utilize one phone number across two devices, initially rolling out for T-Mobile customers, with plans for Verizon and others to follow.
Other enhancements include the ability for Apple users to add Android and Windows friends to shared albums via iCloud, a feature now allowing full-resolution photo uploads. Users can also save video frames directly as photos without needing to take screenshots, alongside new transition options in Apple Music and enhanced search capabilities in Apple Podcasts.
Moreover, Apple has introduced new keyboards for indigenous languages and updated parental controls that include Child Accounts equipped with web safety features. Additionally, health-related support features for menopause and perimenopause are rolling out as part of the update.
iOS 27 became available on September 14 for compatible devices. Users can upgrade by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update, ensuring their phones are backed up and plugged in before proceeding.
Mac users can currently download OS 27, referred to as "Golden Gate," and iPad users will also have access to these new features with iPadOS 27.
