Released in August, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 feature horizontal folding, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 folds vertically. All three models aim to improve usability through thinner builds and refined exteriors.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra stands out with an unfolded size of 158.4 by 143.2 by 4.1 mm and an 8-inch display with a resolution of 2504 by 2256. Weighing 217 grams, it offers a user experience reminiscent of a standard smartphone when folded. Gigazine, which reviewed the devices, noted its narrow front bezel and a front camera located at the top right.
The Galaxy Z Fold8, measuring 123.8 by 161.4 by 4.5 mm when unfolded, features a 7.6-inch display and a resolution of 2448 by 1848. The aspect ratio is 4:3, providing a rectangular shape. At 204 grams, this model is positioned as a good option for consumers looking for a device that is easier to hold than longer smartphones.
Both Fold models have a camera layout on the rear. The Fold8 Ultra’s camera bump extends about 3 mm from the base, while the Fold8's bump is about 2 mm. A Samsung logo is etched on the hinge.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 focuses on portability, resembling a typical smartphone when unfolded. Weighing 182 grams, it is the lightest of the trio. The design includes a vent, a microphone hole at the top, a USB Type-C port at the bottom, and a power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor.
Gigazine reports that the secondary display, which allows users to check notifications or preview screens for photos, is not optimal for gaming. The Flip8 is targeted at those who prioritize portability due to its compact size.
Each of the new foldables showcases a distinct purpose: the Fold8 Ultra highlights its large screen, the Fold8 emphasizes content viewing, and the Flip8 offers simplicity and portability. Gigazine plans to review the performance of these devices in further evaluations.
