Founded in 2019 by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, Glass Imaging focuses on enhancing smartphone photography through its innovative camera technology, which integrates hardware, software, and neural networks. The company has reportedly raised approximately $30 million in funding to date.

Glass Imaging's technology improves image processing during capture rather than relying solely on post-capture edits, utilizing neural networks tailored for specific camera systems. This technology has been implemented in devices from the Chinese smartphone maker Honor.

While OpenAI has not specified its intentions for integrating Glass Imaging's technologies, this acquisition enhances its capabilities in camera systems and computational photography. The company has previously collaborated with former Apple design chief Jony Ive and acquired his hardware startup for $6.5 billion in 2025. OpenAI is also exploring various product opportunities, including potential smartphones and AI-powered devices.
