Apple Releases tvOS 27 with Enhanced Features for Apple TV

Apple has launched tvOS 27 alongside major updates for its other devices, including iOS 27, in early September 2026. The latest software, compatible with the second and third generations of the Apple TV 4K, offers several enhancements, although it notably lacks the new Siri AI found in other updates.

Despite the absence of significant new features, tvOS 27 refines existing apps and controls, making improvements in areas such as Apple Music and the Apple TV Remote app. The company has remained somewhat reserved about the update's specifics, leading to speculation about a forthcoming Apple TV model that may introduce more advanced features, including homeOS automation.

One of the highlighted improvements in tvOS 27 is faster app loading times, which are reported to be up to 30% quicker. This enhanced speed also applies to the Control Center and AirPlay connectivity, enhancing user experience for everyday tasks. Additionally, a new broader text-size accessibility option has been introduced, improving readability on larger screens.

In terms of Apple Music, tvOS 27 adds the ability to play Hi-Res Lossless 24-bit/192kHz audio on the Apple TV 4K, a feature that has been available on other Apple devices since 2021. The update also introduces Crossfade and AutoMix features to enhance music listening; Crossfade allows a smooth transition between songs by reducing the volume on the current track, while AutoMix seamlessly blends the sounds and beats for a continuous listening experience.

Apple has also updated how users manage software updates for their Apple TV. With tvOS 27, updates can be triggered via the Home app, making it easier for users with multiple HomePods and Apple TVs to stay current.

The revamped Podcasts app now supports video, enhancing the viewing experience for podcast content. Users can switch between audio and video seamlessly, and content creators have more flexibility with ad placements. These features have also been made available in over 170 countries and regions.

Finally, the new Apple TV Remote app for iPhones and iPads has been redesigned for enhanced functionality. It retains previous features such as menu navigation and Siri assistance, while also allowing users to add the app to their home screen, providing easier access. The upgraded app design aims to offer a more integrated experience with other iOS and iPadOS applications.
